(Day 1, St. Louis Boarding only)

Morning & Early afternoon: If you have arrived in St. Louis early and would like some close-by sightseeing may we suggest you stroll near-by historic St. Louis Union Station.  Every vacation starts at the Station and St. Louis is no exception.  St. Louis Union Station was, at one time, the largest and busiest railroad terminal.  There is a self-guided tour covering this National Historic Landmark’s 100 years of history through an award-winning collection of letters, memorabilia and exhibits.

Today the hustle and bustle around the Station is the special charm that this unique shopping and dining destination offers.  Take some time out and try anyone of the many exciting restaurants located in and around the Station for lunch on your own.

St. Louis Amtrak Station

2:15 PM(approx): Passengers wishing to join our Orange Blossom Special  rail tour in St. Louis should plan to meet our on-board service manager at Amtrak’s Gateway Transportation Center, 430 S.15th St., St. Louis 63103.  Prearranged cell phone contact numbers will allow our on-board staff to guide you to our private rail-cars and will transfer your luggage directly to your accommodations.  After our on-board staff has reviewed the amenities of your accommodations and All Aboardyou have read the on-board information packet, feel free to step down to our lounge and enjoy a complementary premium beverage and snack while getting acquainted with other passengers.

3:00 PM: Depart St. Louis on Amtrak #304, Lincoln Service, to Chicago, IL.
After the conductor calls “All Aboard” our Orange Blossom Special  eases out of the station and we begin by crossing the Mississippi River.  Peering through the windows of the train, the Gateway Arch gradually disappears behind us as we pick up speed for the journey to Chicago.  The rolling hills, forests and occasional small town create the ever-changing scenery along with the train’s gentle sway, the rhythm of the rails sing their song.

4:56: Depart: Springfield, IL.  You may join the trip here.

5:30 PM:(approx) Dinner will be served on-board while en-route.

Evening: With the sun setting on the Illinois prairie, the last glimmer of light silhouettes the trees and farms that dot the horizon.  Enjoy a complimentary after dinner drink in the lounge while enjoying the sights from the comfort of your own chair.

8:40 PM: AR: Chicago Union Station.  As our trains thunders in to Chicago’s Union Station we will pause here for a while.  First to discharge passengers and then to be switched to the passenger coach yard so that our cars may be serviced in preparation for the journey east.

5:40 PM (Approx) All St. Louis re-boarding passengers and Chicago boarding passenger will meet the American Rail Excursions Inc. on-board service manager, Roger Verbeeren, 312-909-5128,  at the fountain under the escalators adjacent to the former Amtrak Ticket counter for special check-in. For our Chicago boarding passengers, DO NOT check any luggage with Amtrak. Complimentary baggage handling is provided by our on-board service attendants who will transfer your luggage directly to your accommodations aboard our private railcar.

Washington Union Station

1:10 PM AR Washington DC—Passengers de-train for sightseeing on their own. The railcars will be switched and serviced and will not be available during the afternoon.

Afternoon: Enjoy Washington DC Union Station and nearby sights on your own.

6:00 PM (Approx): Reboard railcar.  Contact our Chief of on-board Services, Roger Verbeeren for car location or look for Amtrak #97, the Silver Meteor on the train departure board.

6:30 PM (Approx): A freshly prepared dinner will be served on-board.

7:30 PM DP Washington—Private cars attached to Amtrak #97 – Silver Meteor.

Morning: This morning we will highball through the orange groves of Florida traveling along the same path as the historic Seaboard Coast Line Railroad.

Afternoon: We will be passing through many of Florida’s well-known vacation spots such as Orlando, home to many entertainment parks, and Ft. Lauderdale, the “Venice of America”, before arriving in Miami. Complimentary premium beverage and snack service will be available.

Monday, March 26, 2018 (5/4)

7:30—8:30 AM Breakfast served on-board while parked in Miami.

9:00 AM (Approx) Depart railcar via motorcoach for an included tour of the Greater Miami attractions. We will rock’n roll around South Beach.  We’ll take a short beach walk getting a little exercise in the historic Art Deco District.  After that our motor coach will cruise over to Wynwood and learn about the 9 different types of Street Art.

12:00 Noon (Approx): Lunch Our tour will pause for an included lunch at La Caretta Restaurant, an exciting Cuban/American themed restaurant.

Early Afternoon: Our motorcoach tour continues on to Little Havana where we will hop off for some ice cream and a Latin culture lesson at Domino Park after which we will transfer to seaside.

3:00 PM (Approx) Our motorcoach now delivers us to the dock of the Miami Tour Company where we will enjoy an approximately 1 1/2 hour cruise on a bi-level yacht.  The tour is fully narrated by a local guide. While cruising, enjoy an included complimentary glass of wine, beer or soft drink all the while learning the fun facts about the celebrity homes we cruise past. The amazing waterways provide all with spectacular views of Miami Beach, Star Island mansions, cruise ships and the downtown skyline.

5:00 PM (Approx) Reboard motorcoach for return trip to our train.

5:30 PM (Approx) Motorcoach returns to our train. Upon reboarding complimentary premium beverage and snack service commences. Enjoy lively conversation over your favorite libation.

6:30 PM (Approx) Dinner freshly prepared and served on-board.

6:00—7:00 AM Breakfast served on-board while parked in Miami, FL.

7:30 (Approx): Based on popular requests and depending on Early Bookings* we will have an included overnight side tour to beautiful Key West, FL.  Our motorcoach will pick guests up right from our train and deliver you to Key West. We’ll stay at the quaint bed and breakfast  Heron House Court, 412 Frances St., Key West, FL 33040.

Everyone and everything in Key West seems to go at its own pace., right down to the ice melting in your margarita glass.  Of course, it’s not at all limes and leisure!  Key West is also known as the “Winter White House” because of its appeal to visiting U.S. Presidents and literary guests too.

Noon: (Approx) Arrive: Key West, FL Our motorcoach will deliver us right to the heart of Old Key West.  You’ll want to discover all of the attractions of Key West on your own.  Why not start off with Mallory Square, the hub of Key West’s social and commercial life since the early 1820’s.

You’ll want to make the most put of your overnight adventure in Key West!  May we suggest the Key West Old Town Trolley Tour which have step-on/step-off tours of the island emanating from Mallory Square every half hour, allowing you to visit the sights at your own pace.  Another is Conch Tour Train.  The Conch Tour is a rubber-tire continuous tour of the lores and attractions of this tropical paradise.  The Conch Train Tour is a 90 minute tour with three step-off points.  You board the Tour in Mallory Square with departures every 30 minutes.

* Each couple will enjoy a non-smoking, King Bed and in-room refrigerator, with included breakfast in the morning.

No visit to Key West would be complete without a visit to Duval Street!  Duval Street is lined with bars, hotels, restaurants, shops and most often the center of Key West’s party area.  Take a walk on the wild side! … You never know who you will meet!  Enjoy dinner on your own at any of the hundreds of dining establishments.

Sunset Celebration@Mallory Square: Beginning two hours before sunset a celebration and a view that has captured the love and astonishment of iconic figures from Mark Twain in the 1800’s to Tennessee Williams in the late 20th century.  The Key West Sunset Celebration invites all to partake in watching the glowing pink and red sun sink into the Gulf of Mexico.  The nightly festival features magicians, jugglers, clowns, psychics, local musicians, artists and food vendors that combine for an incredible cultural experience.

Night: Whenever you are ready to call it a night, meander back to our included hotel for a well deserved rest.

Wednesday, March 28, 2018 (7/6)

Morning: Enjoy an included breakfast before heading out for the day.

All Day: Today is yours to enjoy on your own at your own pace.  There are many attractions, Earnest Hemingway’s House, Key West lighthouse, Key West Shipwreck Museum and the famous Southernmost Point Buoy.

Lunch/Dinner are on your own while in Key West.

5:15 PM (Approx): We will gather for our return to Miami, FL and our train at our specially designated spot.  By now you should have of had a great time in Key West.

5:45 PM (Approx): Motorcoach departs Key West for Miami and our Orange Blossom Special.

9:45 PM (Approx): Arrive at Amtrak in Miami, FL and our Orange Blossom Special.  Reboard after our two-day, overnight adventure.  It is time to relax, enjoy a nightcap in the lounge and swap stories about your escapades in Key West!  Your accommodations have been readied for your sweet slumber.

Thursday, March 29, 2018 (8/7)

7:00 AM: For those early risers, wake up coffee will be available in our lounge for your enjoyment.

7:30—8:30 AM Breakfast served on-board while parked in Miami and while enroute.

8:20 AM Depart Miami, FL  Amtrak #98, the Silver Meteor, our Orange Blossom Special.

Morning: Heading north this morning our travels will take us through some of South Florida’s most popular destinations, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach & Winter Haven.

12:00 Noon(Approx): Enjoy a freshly prepared lunch while enjoying the sights.

1:23 PM: Arrive Orlando FL  If we are on schedule, you might be able to stretch your legs for a few minutes.

1:35 PM DP: Orlando, FL  

Afternoon: Complimentary premium beverage and snack service continues.

4:48 PM: (Approx)AR: Jacksonville, FL. Once again, time permitting,  you’ll have an opportunity to stretch your legs.

5:08 PM DP: Jacksonville, FL

6:30 PM (Approx): Dinner will be prepared and served onboard enroute.

7:21 AM AR Washington DC Usually, within an hour, our private railcars will be moved to the yard for post-trip servicing.  During this time, several hours, no one is allowed off the rail cars.  Please plan accordingly.

Morning/Afternoon: May we suggest you take this opportunity to visit the close by sights in Washington DC.

Lunch: On your own while touring Washington DC.

3:15 PM: (Approx) Reboard our Orange Blossom Special, now attached to Amtrak #29, the Capitol Limited.  We will probably be departing on a different track from our arrival track so check the Amtrak monitors for #29, Capitol Limited. It’s departure is usually from track 16 but check carefully.  Upon reboarding, complementary premium beverage, snack service and hors d’oeuvres are all available for your enjoyment.

4:05 PM DP Washington DC via Amtrak #29, the Capitol Limited, our Orange Blossom Special.

Late Afternoon: We will depart our nations Capital and follow the Potomac River Valley tracing parts of the historic C&O canal barge tow path to Harpers Ferry.

6:00 PM (Approx) Dinner served on-board and enroute.

Evening: Complimentary premium beverage and snack service continues until 11:00 PM local time.

Night: When you decide… retire to overnight comfort of your own private room while enroute to Chicago.

Saturday, March 31, 2018 (10/9)

7:00 AM: Wake up coffee is available in the lounge.

7:30 – 8:30 AM: Breakfast is served on-board while enroute.

8:45 AM (Approx) AR: Chicago Union Station.  As the Capitol Limited thunders into the cavernous confines of Chicago’s Union Station the squeal of the brakes and the whooossshhh of the air, signal the end of this rail odyssey.  Upon arrival, Chicago passengers and their luggage will detrain.  Onboard services are concluded.  We thank you!

Usually, within an hour or so of arrival, our train will be moved from the station to Amtrak’s Chicago Coach yard, 1400 Lumber St., for necessary post-trip inspections and servicing.

Passengers Continuing to points south and St. Louis

May we suggest that you plan to alight from our Orange Blossom Special  while in Union Station.  Within an hour or so our train will be moved to perform required post-trip servicing.  During the servicing no one is allowed on or off the rail cars.  Please plan accordingly.

Lunch/Dinner: On your own while touring the many sights in Chicago.

6:00 PM: You may reboard our Orange Blossom Special while we are parked in the Chicago Passenger car yard at 1400 S. Lumber St and Roosevelt Rd.

Evening: Tonight, as you return from your day exploring the Windy City, will be your last night on the rails. Be sure to stop by the lounge for one last night cap with your fellow travelers. Complimentary premium beverage and snack service continues until 11:00 PM local time.

Sunday, April 1, 2018 (Day 11)

7:30 AM: Wake up coffee is available in the lounge.

8:00 – 9:00 AM: Breakfast is served on-board while parked in Chicago.

9:25 AM Depart Chicago: Our St. Louis passengers will be returning home on today’s departing Amtrak #303, our Orange Blossom Special.

Morning: Behind us we leave the bustling city and sprawling suburbs of Chicago.  We will enjoy the newest “High Speed” line in Illinois as we travel at speeds of up to 110 MPH.  This unprecedented view can only be seen from the windows of our train.

11:39: Depart: Bloomington, IL.  You may depart the trip here.

12:00 Noon(approx) A light luncheon will be served on-board en-route.

12:50: Depart: Springfield, IL.  You may depart the trip here.

3:00 PM: Arrive: St. Louis  As the Gateway Arch comes in to view, we will be arriving at our final destination, St. Louis, MO.  Upon arrival, our first-class on-board staff bids everyone a fond farewell and thanks for wonderful journey!

About Your Accommodations:

Double Bedrooms:

Double bedrooms have space for two passengers. Each double bedroom features either one large couch or a small couch and lounge chair for comfortable private day travel. Every double bedroom has a large window. By night, each double room has two beds (1-upper and 1-lower). Every room is furnished with adjustable climate control, fan, reading lights, fold-down table, garment closet and full-length door mirror. The annex (your private bathroom) has a fold-down sink; large lighted wall mirror, toilet and a 110-volt convenience outlet. Your linens, towels and soap are also provided. Best of all, your attendant will turn down your bed, arrange for a wake-up call and bring your morning tea, coffee, or juice right to your room. All sleeping cars are equipped with a shower.

Transportation companies, Amtrak, etc. are not to be held responsible for any act, omission or event during the time passengers are not on board train or conveyances.  The passenger contracts in use by Amtrak or transportation companies and passengers or purchasers of this tour, assumes no responsibility in this connection.  Payments are not refundable unless the trip is canceled.  We reserve the right to cancel a trip prior to departure, in which case your entire payment to us will be refunded without further obligation on our part.  Smoking is not permitted on these cars (except in vestibules between cars and on the ground at the longer station stops).  As is the case of all travel, regardless of destination, we cannot guarantee clear weather at all times.
