This tour which begins and ends in St. Louis promises to be the ultimate in overnight private rail-car travel adventure on a budget.
Our nostalgic pocket stream-liner will embark on our River Cities Fall Foliage Rail Tour visiting Kansas City and it’s attractions. Passengers will enjoy the many sights, first-class service, complimentary premium beverage and snack service and fine dining of freshly prepared traditional railroad fare while traveling on-board our train. Your reserved overnight accommodations aboard our train, either double bedroom or deluxe suite, are yours for the entire trip. No hassles of unpacking and repacking or transfers to and from hotels. We will travel the care-free, car-free way,… no traffic or driving stress.

Thursday, Oct 8, 2015 (DAY 1)
8:30 AM: (approx) Passengers boarding our River Cities Fall Foliage Tour will meet our on-board service manager at Amtrak’s St. Louis Gateway Transportation Center, 430 S. 15th St., St Louis, MO 63103. You will be greeted by American Rail Excursions, Inc. first class on-board service attendants. We will assist and guide you and your luggage to our awaiting private rail cars. Upon boarding, our on-board service staff will assist with your luggage and guide you to your accommodations. After an instructional review of the cars amenities of your accommodations and you have read the on-board information packet, feel free to step down to our lounge and enjoy a complimentary juice, freshly brewed coffee, continental breakfast items or a morning libation from the bar. You will have some time to get acquainted with our other passengers before our departure.
9:15 AM: Depart St. Louis, MO via Amtrak #311, the Missouri River Runner, our River Cities Foliage Rail Tour.
With the “All Aboard” called out by the conductor we gradually ease our way out of the station and head west. Peering through the windows of our train, the landmark Gateway Arch gradually disappears as we pick up speed.
Continental Breakfast: Just in case you might not have had breakfast you can enjoy an array of fresh fruit, assorted juices, pastries, granola bars, tea, milk or freshly brewed coffee.
Morning: With so much history involved on this route you’ll certainly want to enjoy the views. Washington, MO, the second westbound and second to last eastbound station is a former Missouri Pacific traditional brick station. Built in 1923, it is included in the city’s historical district. Washington sits in the south bank of the Missouri River, approximately 50 miles from St. Louis, in what has been described as the heart of the Missouri wine country.
Voted Missouri’s “Most Beautiful Town” and tucked away in the Missouri River Valley, Herman is a picture-book village when 19th century brick buildings hug the sidewalk as they do in Germany. Herman is known for its many world class wines.
As we continue to follow the majestic Missouri River our train calls on “America’s Most Beautiful Small Town”, Jefferson City, Missouri’s State Capital. The Capitol Building sits atop a bluff overlooking our train and the tree lined Missouri River.
12:00 Noon: (approx) Lunch will be served on-board while enroute. The sights of the scenic countryside have kept your eyes affixed out our windows to this beautiful route. Our on-board chef has freshly prepared a delicious luncheon for your rail dining pleasure. Enjoy the countryside, conversation and a glass of wine with your meal!
Afternoon: As our River Cities Fall Foliage Rail Tour continues through the rolling hills, forests and ever-changing scenery, enjoy a complimentary premium beverage and snack our dapper first-class on-board staff will be happy to deliver your beverage of choice right to your seat or, upon request, to your private accommodations. Just Ask!
2:55 PM: AR Kansas City, MO via Amtrak #311 the Missouri River Runner. May we suggest you take this opportunity to step off off our River Cities Fall Foliage Rail Tour private cars and visit and explore Union Station, Kansas City. Upon completion of Amtrak’s passenger station work our train will wye (turn around) and return to the Amtrak station. At some time afterward, the Kansas City Terminal Railroad will remove our private rail cars from the train and park them on the old station tracks of Union Station, Kansas City where we will remain parked for the next few days.
Late Afternoon: After our private rail cars have been relocated to the Union Station house track our lounge will be reopened. Enjoy a complimentary premium beverage and snack before heading out for dinner on your own.
Dinner: On your own this evening while visiting the Greater Kansas City area. Union Station offers Pierponts Restaurant at Union Station, an upscale “Culinary Jewel” steakhouse. Just over the pedestrian bridge, at the Freight House, you can enjoy some Kansas City barbecue at Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue Restaurant. If Italian food is what you crave, then Lidia’s Kansas City Restaurant, also located in the Freight House, is just the place for you. Grünauer, a German restaurant, is also situated in the Freight House as well. The choices abound.
Evening: With the sun already gone the lights of the city silhouette the skyline. Enjoy a complimentary after dinner drink in our lounge. While you have been out and about our on-board staff has transformed your accommodations from it’s daytime configuration to one set for sweet slumber tonight. When you decide… you may return to the overnight comfort of your private room. Our lounge will remain open until 11 PM local time.

Friday, Oct 9 2015 (Day 2)
7:30 AM – 9:00 AM: This morning, as you awaken to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, our on-board chef has freshly prepared a hearty breakfast for your enjoyment.
Morning: Today is set for exploration of the sights of the Greater Kansas City area. An included, fully narrated, trolley tour will allow you to see the highlights of Kansas City. This tour originates at the front of Union Station and departs at 10:00 AM, 12:00 noon, 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
Lunch: On your own while touring.
4:00 PM (approx) As you return to your downtown oasis after a day of touring stop off in our lounge for a complimentary premium beverage and snacks. Enjoy lively conversation about today’s discoveries while touring. Relax and enjoy,… after all,… you’re on vacation!
Dinner: On your own at any of the greater Kansas City restaurants.
Evening: Complimentary premium beverage and snack service continue until 11 PM tonight.
Night: Occupy rail-cars overnight while parked in Kansas City..
Saturday, Oct 10, 2015 (Day 3)
7:30 AM – 9:00 AM: Breakfast served in-board, parked in Kansas City.
Lunch: On your own while enjoying the city sites.
4:00 PM: Our ever-popular lounge is open and welcoming our “Travelers ” back home! Our first-class on-board service attendants have that complimentary premium beverages ready and waiting for your enjoyment. Discussions of the days site-seeing discoveries abound. It seems that everyone has found that special place for dinner this evening.
Dinner: Tonight is your last night on the town. Enjoy your restaurant of choice on your own this evening.
Evening: Our lounge will once again be open until 11 PM local time serving complimentary premium beverages of your choice. You may return to your private accommodations at any time.
Night: Occupy rail-cars overnight while parked in Kansas City.
Note: Sometime this evening or in the wee hours of the morning our private
rail cars our River Cities Fall Foliage Rail Tour will be moved from Union
Station, Kansas City back over to Amtrak’s Kansas City Station for
tomorrows departure back to St. Louis.
Sunday, Oct 11, 2015 (Day 4)
Morning: Passengers enjoy the scenic views of the rolling Missouri countryside. Our route will follow the original line of the Pacific Railroad. (Circa 1865). The Pacific Railroad was the first railroad completed west of the Mississippi River. Our route (of the eagles) cuts overland through Warrensburg and Sedalia. We’ll follow the Missouri River valley from Jefferson City to about Gray Summit. Upon passing through the tunnel at Gray Summit, we enter the Meramec River valley as we descend into St. Louis, MO.
12 Noon – 1:30 PM: Luncheon served aboard our rail-cars, en-route. For our St. Louis, MO bound passengers we suggest enjoying lunch as our scheduled arrival time into St. Louis, MO is approximately 1:55 PM.
1:55: AR St. Louis, MO: With the St. Louis skyline glistening in the warm afternoon sun, the tower rising from old St. Louis Union Station welcomes us back. As our train drifts by the station, now a historic landmark, we slowly grind to a halt. Our first class on board staff bid farewell to our St. Louis departing passengers, as they alight from our train.
New found friends bid farewell as all step off the train. Our trip ends here.

Double bedrooms have space for two passengers. Each double bedroom features either one large couch or a small couch and lounge chair for comfortable private day travel. Every double bedroom has a large window. By night, each double room has two beds (1-upper and 1-lower). Every room is furnished with adjustable climate control, fan, reading lights, fold-down table, garment closet and full-length door mirror. The annex (your private bathroom) has a fold-down sink; large lighted wall mirror, toilet and a 110-volt convenience outlet. Your linens, towels and soap are also provided. Best of all, your attendant will turn down your bed, arrange for a wake-up call and bring your morning tea, coffee, or juice right to your room. All sleeping cars are equipped with a shower.

As is the case of all travel, regardless of destination, we cannot guarantee clear weather at all times. Clouds, rain or other weather conditions beyond our control may obscure scenic highlights. We have no control over the various transportation companies providing services for the excursions, and thus it must be understood that changes in the equipment, dates, routes, or other accommodations, though unlikely, can occur.
